AS 2118.1 Sprinkler Spacer — metric + friction demand

Optimum spacing + friction-informed system demand, plus hung-obstruction clearances (Table 5.7.2 / Cl 5.7.9.3). Units: m · m² · mm · mm/min · L/min · kPa · K · Hazen–Williams.

Inputs

0 = off; else snap spacing to module (ceiling heads).
Sloping roof/bay (>6° slope or bay ≤9 m) uses Table 10.2.3 arrays for OH; LH & HH design unchanged. AS 2118.1 Cl 5.5.3(b) requires spacing measured horizontally (default). "Along roof line" spaces sprinklers by physical surface distance (more heads on steep roofs) — conservative, NOT the code default. Deflectors parallel to slope (Cl 5.5.3a); slope >1 in 3 (~18.4°) needs an apex line (Cl 5.5.3c).

Nominal only (NO friction) — for feasibility.

Friction loss & overall demand (early estimate)

Model the most remote path head → branch → cross-main → main/riser → source. Enter each pipe leg's size, its approximate length, fittings (90° elbows/bends and tees), and how many operating heads feed that leg (flow = heads × remote-head flow). Uses Hazen–Williams. SEED C-factor/dia; VISUAL CHECK against AS 2118.1 before relying.

covers backflow, devices, unknowns (edit per project). Friction = Cl 14.10 Hazen–Williams; fitting equivalent lengths = Table 14.11.1 (C-adjusted).

Very rough — for pricing/feasibility only, NOT a design calculation. Verify with a full hydraulic calc.
